Nintendo is gearing up to prevent Switch 2 shortages at launch, vowing to outmaneuver scalpers with one clear message: "We're ready."

Following their latest earnings report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about avoiding the supply issues that plagued the original Switch's 2017 debut. "We'll implement all possible countermeasures based on our past experiences with scalpers," Furukawa told Nikkei (translated by VGC). "Preparations are underway."

The original Switch faced severe shortages at launch, creating a scalper's paradise with inflated secondary market prices. But Furukawa insists history won't repeat itself. "Our core strategy remains ensuring adequate production to meet demand," he stated in July 2024. "Beyond that, we're exploring region-specific solutions within legal boundaries."

He added: "Past semiconductor shortages that hindered Switch production have been resolved. Component availability won't significantly impact manufacturing of the successor model."

Nintendo will host a Switch 2 Direct on April 2 with additional details, followed by global Switch 2 hands-on events.

During today's briefing (February 4, 2025), Furukawa downplayed claims that slowing Switch sales reflect consumers waiting for the new console. "Purchase hesitation appears minimal," he noted. "While we're not hitting targets, eighth-year performance remains solid."

The president also confirmed ongoing Switch support post-Switch 2 launch "as demand persists." Notably, major titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will still launch on the original Switch in 2025.
