"Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con"

May 05,25(5 months ago)

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, aligning with earlier rumors. This revelation came through the newly launched Nintendo Today! app, whose listings on the App Store and Google Play feature an image that clearly shows the letter "C" on the button.

The C button was first showcased with the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, though initial images of the new Joy-Con did not display any letter on the button. Speculation about its function has been rampant, with theories suggesting it could be used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV, enabling screen sharing, switching the Joy-Con to a mouse mode, or even facilitating new group or voice chat functionalities.

PlayNintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which promises to shed more light on this new feature. Until then, here's what we know for certain about the Nintendo Switch 2:

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule. The console is larger than its predecessor and comes with larger Joy-Con controllers that resemble a mouse in design. It features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, doubling the original Switch's single port. The Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital games from the original Switch, as well as exclusive titles for the Switch 2. However, some games from the original Switch might not be fully compatible. Additionally, a new Mario Kart game is slated for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In the meantime, Nintendo recently held a Direct focused on the original Switch, during which the Nintendo Today! app was unveiled. Video game legend Shigeru Miyamoto shared details about this new app during the showcase. The Nintendo Today! app is designed as a comprehensive hub for Nintendo fans, offering a daily calendar and news feed to keep players updated in real-time. Following the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans can use the app to stay informed about the latest developments, with Miyamoto promising "daily" updates.
