"Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay Affects Canada Due to Tariffs"
Gamers around the globe let out a collective groan last week when the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to "somewhere in the distant future," due to unexpected import tariffs imposed by President Trump that sent financial markets into a tailspin. The ripple effect reached beyond the U.S., affecting neighboring regions. In a statement to Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup, Nintendo of Canada confirmed that pre-orders north of the border would also be delayed indefinitely.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, aligning with the revised timing for U.S. pre-orders," Nintendo of Canada stated. "The company will provide further updates at a later date. Rest assured, the launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

This mirrors the message Nintendo of America delivered to IGN earlier, although the Canadian version omitted any mention of tariffs.
“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not begin on April 9, 2025, pending further assessment of potential tariff impacts and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo stated. “The company will provide an update on timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unaltered.”
With the original pre-order window fast approaching, there’s still no clarity on when gamers can expect to resume their refresh-and-pray routine, leaving enthusiasts anxious over the possibility of a price hike from the initially announced $449.99.
Elsewhere, the situation is equally chaotic. Pre-orders went live in the UK today, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths swiftly selling out. Scalpers are already capitalizing on the shortage, listing pre-orders on eBay for upwards of £500 ($639), well above the official price of £395.99 ($506).
