Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided an update on the development progress of The Outer Worlds 2 and their highly anticipated fantasy RPG, Avowed. Despite a challenging period, the studio assures fans that both projects are progressing well.

Urquhart candidly discussed the hurdles faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and the period following Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, presented significant challenges. He acknowledged a period of strained resources, even mentioning internal discussions about potentially halting The Outer Worlds 2 development to focus on Avowed. However, the studio ultimately persevered, continuing development across all projects.

Urquhart recalled the complexities of navigating acquisition, pandemic-related disruptions, and the simultaneous development of Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Pentiment.

Despite these challenges, he highlighted the successful launches of Grounded and Pentiment, and the promising progress on Avowed. He described The Outer Worlds 2 as "looking incredible," though specifics regarding game content remain undisclosed. With Avowed's release date pushed to 2025, it's plausible that similar schedule adjustments may impact other Obsidian projects.

Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates since. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of delays, similar to those experienced with Avowed. However, he reiterated Obsidian's commitment to delivering exceptional gaming experiences. He assured fans that all projects are progressing, albeit potentially on revised timelines. Both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are anticipated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
