DC Studios head James Gunn has officially announced that Season 2 of Peacemaker will premiere on Max on August 21. Accompanying this announcement, Gunn shared a brief snippet of new footage, showcasing John Cena in character, smirking at the camera amidst a backdrop of flames. In the clip, a voice declares Peacemaker to be "a superhero now."

In an enthusiastic tweet, Gunn expressed his excitement, stating, "Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21."

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the highly anticipated release of Superman on July 11, marking the cinematic kickoff for Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). This season will be the third entry in the new DCU, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.

The new DCU, spearheaded by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, represents a departure from the critically maligned DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new universe. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, transitioning from the old DCEU in its first season to the new DCU in its second.

Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although specifics about what will transition from the DCEU to the DCU remain under wraps. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the same cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Furthermore, Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting the storyline of Peacemaker.
