New Power Rangers Live-Action Disney+ Series Reportedly Designed to Reinvent the Franchise for a New Generation of Fans
Excitement is building as the iconic Power Rangers franchise is gearing up for a thrilling live-action series on Disney+. According to reports from The Wrap, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, the masterminds behind the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, are in discussions to helm the project as writers, showrunners, and producers for Disney+ and 20th Century TV. This collaboration aims to breathe new life into the beloved franchise, targeting both a new generation of fans and maintaining the loyalty of its existing audience.

The original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series, which aired in the '90s, captured the hearts of millions with its teenage superheroes and their impressive mechs that could combine into a mega-mech. This nostalgia-fueled show became a cornerstone of childhood entertainment for many.
In 2018, Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers franchise from Saban Properties in a $522 million deal. Brian Goldner, Hasbro's chairman and CEO at the time, expressed enthusiasm about the brand's "tremendous upside potential," highlighting opportunities across toys, games, consumer products, digital gaming, entertainment, and global retail markets.
This acquisition followed the disappointing performance of the 2017 Power Rangers movie reboot, which attempted a darker, grittier take on the franchise but failed to resonate at the box office. The subsequent sale to Hasbro marked a new chapter for the franchise, with hopes of reinvention and expansion.
Hasbro is not stopping with Power Rangers. The company is also developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series titled The Forgotten Realms at Netflix, alongside an animated Magic: The Gathering series and a cinematic universe based on the same game, also at Netflix. These ambitious projects underscore Hasbro's commitment to expanding its beloved brands across various media platforms.
