Amazon is refunding pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, notifying customers via email that pre-orders are cancelled due to unavailability. This news, reported January 11, 2025, across various online forums, has sparked concern among fans.
Amazon assures customers that refunds for cancelled pre-orders will be processed within one to two business days. While disappointing for those who pre-ordered, particularly long-time fans since the game's initial 2017 announcement, the cancellation doesn't signal game cancellation, only pre-order unavailability through Amazon.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond's Development History
Initially announced at E3 2017 without a named developer, development was later restarted under Retro Studios in 2019 due to initial progress not meeting Nintendo's standards.
A June 2024 Nintendo Direct showcased gameplay footage and confirmed the title as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, revealing Sylux as the antagonist. Nintendo reaffirmed a 2025 release window on January 3, 2025.
The Amazon cancellation doesn't alter Nintendo's stated release plans. However, with the upcoming Switch 2 announcement, the platform for the game's release remains uncertain.
