Announcing Ananta: The Formerly Known as Project Mugen Open-World RPG

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's had a name change! Now known as Ananta, this title, first unveiled at Gamescom 2023, has finally released a new trailer after a long silence. More details are promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the teaser:

The Name Change Mystery

The developers haven't yet commented on the reason behind the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit for infinite) and "Mugen" (Japanese for infinite) share the same meaning. The Chinese title reinforces this thematic consistency.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but there's general relief that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, its lack of gameplay footage puts it behind Neverness to Everness for some players. Personally, I find Ananta's aesthetic more compelling.

A Curious Social Media Strategy

Here's where things get unusual. The development team deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed to reflect the title change. This clean sweep has left many gamers puzzled, as a simple renaming of existing accounts would have seemed a more logical approach.

In Ananta, you assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a supernatural investigator battling paranormal threats. The cast includes characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
