Will Wright, the visionary behind The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his upcoming AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative title, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape under the development banner of Gallium Studio. Learn more about this unique game focused on interactive memories.

A Deeply Personal Gaming Experience

The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading organization in type 1 diabetes research), featured Wright discussing Proxi's core mechanics. The game uniquely utilizes players' personal memories to create a dynamic, evolving virtual world.

Players input their memories as text, which Proxi then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their recollections using in-game assets. Each added memory, termed a "mem," trains the game's AI and expands the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons.

This mind world becomes populated with Proxies representing friends and family as more memories are added. Memories can be freely arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies to accurately reflect the context of each recollection. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game environments, such as Minecraft and Roblox!

Wright emphasized the game's goal: to create "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." This personal focus, he explained, stems from a design philosophy centered on player engagement: "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. Kind of a saying I've lived by, which is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He quipped, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
