The $700 PS5 Pro's arrival has prompted industry analysts to predict sales comparable to the PS4 Pro, despite the higher price tag. Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls commented on the significant price difference between the PS5 and PS5 Pro, noting it's considerably larger than the gap between the PS4 and PS4 Pro at launch.

Ampere Analysis forecasts approximately 1.3 million PS5 Pro units sold during its November 2024 launch window—around 400,000 fewer than the PS4 Pro's initial sales in 2016. Harding-Rolls highlighted the price difference between the PS4 and PS4 Pro launch models, contrasting it with the PS5 and PS5 Pro. He acknowledges that the PS5 Pro's price may dampen demand, but suggests this is less of a factor for dedicated PlayStation fans. Sony sold approximately 14.5 million PS4 Pro units, representing roughly 12% of total PS4 sales, with an estimated 13 million unit sell-through within five years. Sell-through, in this context, refers to direct consumer purchases from retailers.

Separately, Mark Cerny, PS5 lead architect, confirmed that the PS5 Pro will enhance PSVR2 gaming performance. In a statement to CNET, Cerny explained that the upgraded GPU will support higher resolutions for PSVR2 titles, although specific compatible games haven't been announced. He also mentioned that PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, the PS5 Pro's AI-powered upscaling technology, will eventually be compatible with PSVR2. The PS5 Pro also supports other PS5 accessories, including the PS Portal.

The PS5 Pro's compatibility with the PS Portal has fueled speculation about a potential new portable PlayStation console. Earlier rumors suggested a handheld capable of running PS5 games. While unconfirmed, the PS5 Pro's advanced capabilities could indicate a renewed focus on handheld devices.
