Starting with Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC launch on January 30, 2025, players will have the option to play several PlayStation PC ports without a PSN account. This applies to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and the upcoming The Last of Us Part II Remastered (April 2025 release). However, it's important to note that titles like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut and Until Dawn will still require a PSN account.

PSN Perks: Incentives for Connected Players

While PSN is no longer compulsory, Sony is rewarding players who connect their accounts. Benefits include trophy support, friend management, and exclusive in-game bonuses:

• Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early unlock of the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
• God of War Ragnarök: Access to Kratos' Armor of the Black Bear (previously only available in New Game+) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
• The Last of Us Part II Remastered: 50 bonus points to unlock extras, including Ellie's Jordan’s Jacket skin.
• Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant outfit.

Sony plans to expand these incentives, promising further benefits from PlayStation Studios in the future.

Learning from the Past: Addressing Previous Backlash

This policy shift follows criticism surrounding the PSN requirement for previous PC ports. The mandatory PSN account for Helldivers 2 led to its delisting in numerous countries lacking PSN support, resulting in significant negative feedback. Similar issues arose with God of War Ragnarök's PC release. Sony's decision to make PSN optional reflects a response to these concerns and a commitment to a more inclusive approach for PC players. The limited global reach of PSN (currently around 70+ countries) was a major point of contention, as players in unsupported regions faced difficulties.
