Rambo fans, get ready for an exciting new chapter! A prequel project titled John Rambo is in the works, directed by Jalmari Helander, known for his thrilling films Sisu and Big Game. According to Deadline, Millennium Media is currently launching the film at the Cannes market, an event that coincides with the Cannes Film Festival. This market is a hub where upcoming films seeking funding or distribution partners are showcased to potential investors. Millennium Media, which brought us the Expendables and Has Fallen series, previously produced Rambo in 2008 and Rambo: Last Blood in 2019.

While details about the plot of John Rambo are scarce, we know it will be set during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film First Blood. No casting decisions have been finalized yet. It's reported that Sylvester Stallone, the original Rambo, is aware of the project but is not involved at this stage.

The screenplay for John Rambo has been penned by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, known for their work on The Mauritanian and Black Adam. Filming is set to begin in Thailand in October.

Although a Rambo prequel might come as a surprise, Helander’s recent WWII action film Sisu—which reimagined John Wick as an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis during the Lapland War—demonstrates his capability to deliver high-octane action, making him an excellent choice for this project.
