Mark Hamill's unexpected appearance as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian stands as one of the most thrilling surprises in Star Wars history. During Star Wars Celebration, Rosario Dawson shared with us her astonishment at Hamill's cameo, which she only discovered when he walked onto the set of The Book of Boba Fett.

It's been disclosed that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau cleverly used Jedi Master Plo Koon as a decoy to keep Luke's cameo under wraps. In our discussion, they also recounted the amusing incident where Dawson experienced one of the biggest surprises of her career due to an oversight in communication.

To maintain this monumental secret, scripts that involved Luke Skywalker substituted him with Plo Koon, a tactic also applied to Dawson's script. She expressed confusion upon reading about Plo Koon's supposed arrival in The Book of Boba Fett, a plot point that would have bewildered any Star Wars fan familiar with Plo Koon's demise in Revenge of the Sith.

"I was like... I don't know... but people disappear and then they come back, so maybe it's possible?" Dawson remarked. Her bewilderment turned to shock when Mark Hamill appeared on set. "He even said, 'Plo Koon? That wouldn't even make sense!' and I'm like, 'I know it didn't make sense, but I still had to think it made sense because I got the script and everything!'"

Favreau and Filoni expressed their regret over the mix-up, with Filoni admitting, "That was bad on us!" and adding with a chuckle, "I think we assumed you'd gotten told the right information. We were in it so much."

Favreau highlighted the significance of keeping two major secrets on the show: Grogu's reveal at the end of the first episode and Luke Skywalker's appearance at the end of season two. "We were biting our nails all the way the whole way through, and we somehow miraculously made it cleanly to both of those because everything else leaked. But, unfortunately, we didn't fill in our partner here."

Dawson took the surprise in stride, humorously noting, "I love it, they know I can't be trusted."
