The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a fantastic drive for both your gaming PC and PS5. It easily surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, boasting sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,250 MB/s and 6,300 MB/s respectively. While not quite as fast as the 990 Pro, it's significantly faster than the standard 990 Evo. The key difference? This is a DRAM-less drive. However, this doesn't impact PS5 performance, and for gaming PCs, the HMB (host memory buffer) effectively compensates using a tiny amount of system RAM – a difference you won't even notice.

This SSD doesn't include a pre-installed heatsink. But, as a newer single-sided design, it's energy-efficient and produces minimal heat. This means a heatsink is likely unnecessary, even in a PS5. However, adding one for extra peace of mind won't hurt, though it might add around $7 to the cost.
