Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Launch Date Revealed
Get ready, Sonic fans! The next installment in the thrilling Sonic the Hedgehog film series, Sonic the Hedgehog 4, is slated to dash into theaters on March 19, 2027. According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has officially marked the calendar, giving us just two years to wait before we see our favorite blue blur back in action. While details about the plot and new characters remain under wraps, the anticipation is palpable.
The decision to greenlight a fourth movie comes as no surprise after the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The latest film in the franchise soared to new heights, grossing a staggering $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Sonic movie to date. This achievement is even more impressive considering the initial controversy over Sonic's design, which was significantly altered in post-production following fan feedback.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 not only broke records within its own franchise but also secured its place as the second highest-grossing video game movie of all time in North America, trailing only behind the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. This continues the epic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega, now playing out on the big screen.
The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has grown tremendously, encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles streaming TV show spinoff. Rooted in the beloved Sega video game series, the movies follow Sonic, voiced by Ben Schwartz, as he battles his arch-nemesis, Dr. Robotnik, portrayed by Jim Carrey. With each film, the cinematic universe expands, introducing iconic characters like Tails (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba). The most recent film delighted fans by bringing Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Keanu Reeves, into the fold.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has already teased the introduction of another beloved character to the franchise, but we'll keep that a surprise for now.
