Sony's Unveiled Los Angeles PlayStation Studio: A New AAA Title in the Works

A newly established PlayStation studio in Los Angeles, California, is developing a high-profile, original AAA title for the PS5, as confirmed by a recent job posting. This marks Sony's 20th first-party studio, adding to its already impressive roster of acclaimed developers.

The announcement has generated significant excitement among PlayStation fans, who eagerly anticipate news regarding upcoming releases from studios like Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog, and Insomniac Games. Sony's strategic acquisitions of studios such as Housemarque, Bluepoint Games, and Firesprite in recent years have further fueled this anticipation.

The identity of the Los Angeles-based studio remains undisclosed, but speculation points to two potential origins:

• A Bungie Spin-off: Following Bungie layoffs in July 2024, a team working on a project codenamed "Gummybears" transitioned to Sony Interactive Entertainment. This team could be the core of the new Los Angeles studio.

• Jason Blundell's Team: Veteran Call of Duty developer Jason Blundell, formerly co-founder of Deviation Games, left the studio in 2022, which subsequently closed in March 2024. However, many former Deviation Games employees joined PlayStation under Blundell's leadership in May 2024, suggesting this team is now housed within the new studio. This team's longer gestation period makes it a strong contender.

While the specifics of the game under development remain shrouded in mystery, speculation suggests it could be a continuation or reboot of Deviation Games' abandoned AAA project.
