Star Wars Celebration Confirms Oscar Isaac Appearance, Sparking Rumors of His Return to the Galaxy Far, Far Away
Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation
Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she revealed her involvement in a new Star Wars film. This has led fans to anticipate a similar announcement from Isaac.
While the Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially expressing reluctance (he famously stated in 2020 he'd only return for "another house"), he later softened his position, telling Variety in 2022 that he was "open to anything."
Isaac's past criticisms of Disney's handling of the Sequel Trilogy, particularly their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (played by John Boyega), are well-documented. Boyega also voiced negative experiences with Disney and the franchise, although both actors have since expressed openness to future roles.
This confluence of events has fueled speculation about a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio—Rey, Finn, and Poe—in the upcoming Rey film. Set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, this film centers on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already publicly expressed her hope for Boyega's involvement, making Poe's return a logical next step to complete the trio.
However, definitive answers may remain elusive for some time. The anticipated Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, has faced repeated delays, with its earliest possible release date now December 17, 2027. While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer clues, fans will likely face a prolonged wait for concrete information.
