Suikoden's latest venture into mobile gaming, Suikoden STAR LEAP, aims to deliver an experience reminiscent of console gaming. In an insightful interview with Famitsu on March 4, 2025, the developers behind Star Leap shared their vision for the game.

Star Leap Producer Shinya Fujimatsu explained the choice of mobile as the platform, stating, "Our goal was to make Suikoden accessible to as many players as possible. Mobile platforms are the most convenient for this, and we wanted to ensure that Star Leap captures the essence of Suikoden in a true numbered title."

The team's ambition is clear: to blend the high-quality visuals, immersive sound, and compelling narratives of console games with the convenience of mobile gaming.

Expressing Suikoden in STAR LEAP

Fujimatsu emphasized the unique blend of war and friendship that defines Suikoden, saying, "In Suikoden STAR LEAP, it's crucial to bring to life the story of the new 108 stars, reflecting the series' core themes."

Director Yoshiki Meng Shan further detailed the series' charm, noting, "Suikoden balances an upbeat atmosphere with serious moments, all while fostering deep relationships among friends. The fast-paced, cooperative battle system, where many characters join forces, is also a hallmark of Suikoden."

Both a Sequel and a Prequel to the Series

Star Leap will serve as both a sequel and a prequel, weaving through different timelines to enrich the Suikoden saga. It's a brand-new chapter in the series' canon, starting two years before the events of Suikoden 1 and spanning across multiple eras.

Fujimatsu expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Even newcomers to the series will find Star Leap easy to jump into on mobile, with a user-friendly approach to the story and gameplay. We hope it will be your entry point into the world of 'Suikoden Genso'."

Echoing this, Meng Shan added, "As a leading RPG series in Japan, Suikoden demands excellence in every aspect—from its story and graphics to its battle system, sound, and training mechanics. We're excited for players to experience this when Star Leap launches."
