DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look at Milly Alcock Revealed

Production has officially begun on DC's highly anticipated film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. To mark the occasion, DC Studios head James Gunn shared a first glimpse of Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.

The image, posted on Bluesky, shows Alcock seated in her director's chair. Gunn's accompanying message expressed his excitement about the project, confirming Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as director, a fact previously reported last April.

The film is largely based on Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl who seeks Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel received an Eisner Award nomination for "Best Limited Series" in 2022.

Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further cast members include David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the rebooted DC Universe.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow represents the second film in the newly established DC Universe, following James Gunn's Superman movie, slated for release this summer.
