Switch 2 Officially Announced Nintendo's highly anticipated Switch 2 is on the horizon! This article summarizes the initial reveal and upcoming details.

Nintendo Switch 2: Unveiled!

Nintendo Direct: April 2nd, 2025

Following numerous leaks and speculation, Nintendo finally offered a glimpse of the Switch 2. A brief teaser showcased a refined design maintaining the hybrid functionality of its predecessor, but with key enhancements.

The teaser highlighted a larger screen, a more robust kickstand, and magnetically attaching Joy-Cons—a significant change from the original's rail system. An extra USB-C port was also confirmed.

Backward compatibility is confirmed for both physical and digital Switch games, although Nintendo acknowledges some titles may have limited or no support on the Switch 2. Specific details regarding incompatible games will be released later on the Nintendo website. Nintendo Switch Online services will continue seamlessly on the Switch 2.

Switch 2 Officially Announced While no exclusive titles were officially announced, the teaser hinted at a new Mario Kart installment (possibly Mario Kart 9) and reports suggest Gotham Knights may be a launch title. Further details, including game announcements, will be revealed during a dedicated Nintendo Direct on April 2nd, 2025.

Switch 2 Officially Announced Nintendo is hosting "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience" events in major cities worldwide, offering fans a chance to try the console before release.

Ticket registration opens January 17th, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. PT / 2:00 P.M. CT / 3:00 P.M. ET, closing January 26th, 2025, at 11:59 P.M. local time for each location. A Nintendo Account is required. Selection is random, with notifications sent shortly after the registration period.
