Ten Classic PS1 Games Now on Switch
Here are ten fantastic PlayStation 1 games now available on the Nintendo Switch, a selection that showcases the console's diverse and influential game library. This is my final retro game eShop list, as suitable selections from other retro consoles are dwindling. But what a way to end – with the PlayStation! Sony's debut console exceeded all expectations, spawning a legacy of games still celebrated and re-released today. Let's dive into the PlayStation showcase!
Klonoa: The Door to Phantomile – Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series ($39.99)

Klonoa is a deserving classic, a standout 2.5D platformer. Play as a charming, floppy-eared creature journeying through a dream world to thwart a looming threat. Expect vibrant visuals, tight controls, memorable bosses, and a surprisingly moving narrative. While the PlayStation 2 sequel isn't quite as strong, the collection is a must-have.
Final Fantasy VII ($15.99)

A monumental title, Final Fantasy VII revolutionized the Western RPG market and propelled the PlayStation to the top. While the remake exists, experiencing the original's polygonal charm is a journey in itself. Its enduring appeal is evident, making it a timeless classic.
Metal Gear Solid – Master Collection Version ($19.99)

Metal Gear Solid revitalized a dormant franchise, launching it to global fame. While later entries embraced more eccentric elements, the original remains a gripping, action-packed adventure reminiscent of a G.I. Joe episode. Its engaging gameplay ensures lasting enjoyment, and its PlayStation 2 sequels are also available on Switch.
G-Darius HD ($29.99)

G-Darius successfully transitioned Taito's shoot 'em up series into 3D. Though the polygons haven't aged flawlessly, their charm remains undeniable. The game's vibrant colors, unique enemy capture mechanic, and imaginative boss designs make for an exceptional shooter.
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition ($19.99)

While Chrono Cross faced the daunting task of following Chrono Trigger, it stands on its own as a stunning RPG. Its large, diverse cast of characters (though some may feel underdeveloped) and unforgettable soundtrack make it a worthwhile experience. Don't let comparisons overshadow its brilliance.
Mega Man X4 – Mega Man X Legacy Collection ($19.99)

Despite my personal fondness for the Mega Man series, objectivity suggests Mega Man X and Mega Man X4 as the best entry points for newcomers. X4, in particular, boasts a refined design and balanced gameplay, making it a standout in the series. The Legacy Collections offer a chance to experience the series' highlights.
Tomba! Special Edition ($19.99)

Tomba! is a unique blend of platforming and adventure elements. From the creator of Ghosts 'n Goblins, this seemingly lighthearted game gradually ramps up the challenge. Its inventive gameplay and charming style make it a hidden gem.
Grandia – Grandia HD Collection ($39.99)

Though originally a SEGA Saturn title, the PlayStation port forms the basis of this HD release. Sharing DNA with Lunar, Grandia offers a bright, cheerful RPG experience, contrasting with the darker trends of the time. Its satisfying combat system enhances the overall gameplay.
Tomb Raider – Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft ($29.99)

Lara Croft's PlayStation debut remains iconic. While the quality varied across her five adventures, the original's focus on tomb raiding makes it a strong starting point. This collection lets you decide which entry reigns supreme.
moon ($18.99)

moon, originally a Japan-only release, subverts traditional RPG tropes. More of an adventure game, its "punk" aesthetic and unconventional approach may not appeal to all, but its unique message and finally available English translation make it intriguing.
This concludes my PlayStation 1 Switch game recommendations. Share your favorite PlayStation 1 titles in the comments below! I hope you've enjoyed this series. Thanks for reading!
