Ubisoft Responds to Assassin's Creed Shadows Leak

Mar 18,25(11 months ago)

On February 24th, news broke of a significant leak affecting Assassin's Creed Shadows. Numerous individuals streamed the game online, a full month before its official March 20th release date.

Over the weekend, as highlighted by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, deleted social media posts revealed physical copies being sold prematurely, further fueling the unauthorized gameplay streams across platforms like Twitch.

Ubisoft, the developer and publisher, acknowledged the leak on the Assassin's Creed subreddit, urging players to refrain from spoiling the experience for others. Their statement emphasized that the leaked footage doesn't reflect the final game quality, as the team continues to work on pre-launch patches. Ubisoft expressed disappointment over the leaks and thanked the community for their efforts in mitigating spoilers. They concluded by encouraging fans to avoid spoilers and look forward to the official launch on March 20th.

This leak adds to Ubisoft's recent challenges with Assassin's Creed Shadows. The team previously apologized for unauthorized use of a historical recreation group's flag and for historical inaccuracies in the game's depiction of Japan. The game's release date has also been shifted multiple times, initially slated for November, then February 14th, and finally settling on March 20th. Given Ubisoft's recent struggles with underperforming sales and investor concerns, the success of Assassin's Creed Shadows is crucial.
