Insider Gaming reports that the extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, originally taking place in Alaska and known as Project Maverick, has undergone a complete reboot. Initially planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, the project faced significant changes after an internal review. Despite receiving positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management chose to redirect the majority of resources to Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The final decision to abandon the multiplayer aspect came with the reassignment of the technical team to other projects.

The responsibility for the rebooted project has been transferred to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its expertise in development support. Almost the entire original development team has been reassigned to work on the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson's report from mid-December 2024, Far Cry 7 is set to deliver an immersive experience filled with tension and desperation, where time plays a critical role as the main adversary. The storyline centers on the protagonist's mission to rescue their family, who have been kidnapped by a mysterious cult involved in terrifying experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will have just 72 in-game hours, translating to 24 real-time hours, to save their loved ones, making time management a pivotal aspect of the gameplay that adds urgency and intensity.

A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This design element will increase the sense of urgency and pressure, compelling players to make swift, strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 is poised to offer a distinctive gaming experience where every second is crucial, and every decision can lead to significant outcomes.
