Valve Planning to Slow Down Deadlock Updates
Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025
Valve has announced a change in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, moving towards larger, less frequent patches. This shift follows a year of consistent bi-weekly updates in 2024. While this may disappoint some players expecting continuous content, Valve aims to improve its development process and allow more substantial updates to mature before subsequent releases.
The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, foreshadows the potential for future limited-time events and larger content drops. This suggests a shift towards a more event-driven update model.
Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched earlier in 2024 after initial gameplay leaks. It has quickly gained traction in the competitive hero-shooter market, distinguishing itself with its polished steampunk aesthetic and diverse roster of 22 playable characters, further augmented by 8 additional heroes in Hero Labs mode. The game's innovative anti-cheat measures have also garnered praise.
Valve developer Yoshi explained the rationale behind the change on the official Deadlock Discord: the previous two-week update cycle hindered internal iteration and prevented sufficient time for external feedback. The new approach will feature larger, more impactful patches spaced further apart, supplemented by hotfixes as needed.

While an official release date remains unconfirmed, Valve promises further Deadlock news in 2025. The new update strategy indicates a focus on delivering substantial content updates rather than frequent, smaller adjustments.
