Xbox Game Pass: A Must-Have for RPG Fans Now

I've been a dedicated PC gamer for years, drawn in by the allure of frequent Steam sales that have kept me well-stocked with new releases. While I was aware of Xbox Game Pass and its occasional big-name offerings, it never seemed compelling enough for me to subscribe—until yesterday.

The unexpected release of *The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* by Bethesda and Virtuos directly onto Game Pass was a shock, albeit a poorly kept secret. It's a game-changer. And tomorrow, *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, the visually striking debut from Sandfall Interactive, inspired by JRPG classics, will also join the service. As a fervent RPG enthusiast, I have to confess: Microsoft, you've finally won me over.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Both Hit Game Pass This Week

*The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered* was unveiled and released across PC, consoles, and Game Pass on April 22. Like many others, I spent the day downloading it and the night immersed in its enchanting soundtrack. This near-remake boasts new character models, enhanced combat interactions, and remastered visual effects. While over five new voice actors were brought on board, Virtuos wisely retained the charm of the original's quirky dialogue. The base edition of the remaster is priced at $49.99, including the original DLCs, with a deluxe edition available for an additional $10.

Meanwhile, *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33* marks the eagerly anticipated debut from French studio Sandfall Interactive. Set to launch at midnight PST tonight in the U.S., it has garnered a stellar 92 rating on Metacritic. IGN's 9/10 review lauded its story design, calling it "a true modern throwback." The game's stylish UI echoes the Persona series, and early gameplay footage showcases an exceptionally innovative turn-based combat system. The base edition is priced identically to the Bethesda remaster at $49.99.

Although *Expedition 33* was poised to be the highlight of April's Game Pass lineup, the surprise release of *Oblivion Remastered* has raised some concerns about overshadowing the indie title's debut. However, from my perspective, we're being treated to two exceptional games, and Game Pass makes it more affordable to enjoy both. Instead of shelling out $100 for two new titles, I opted for a $20 Game Pass Ultimate subscription. Now, the only dilemma is when I'll see the sun again.

The service has recently expanded to include some of 2025's most anticipated titles such as *Blue Prince*, *South of Midnight*, and *Avowed*, alongside perennial favorites like *GTA V* and the entire *Call of Duty* collection. There truly is something for everyone on Game Pass.

Game Pass Is a Ridiculously Good Deal Right Now

------------------------------------------------

Game Pass Ultimate is available starting at $19.99 per month, offering access to the complete Game Pass library on console, PC, and cloud gaming. The PC-exclusive Game Pass is more budget-friendly at $9.99 per month. The Standard and Core tiers are priced at $14.99 and $9.99 per month, respectively, but they do not include day-one releases. The last price increase for Game Pass occurred in July 2024, and given these game launches, another hike might be on the horizon.

Currently, there are no active Game Pass deals, but purchasing a three-month subscription could shield you from future price increases. For deals on other platforms, check out our roundup of PS5, PC, and Switch offers. And don't forget, U.S. preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 go live tonight.
