"Lost Soul Aside Blocked in Over 130 Countries on Steam Due to Sony"

Lost Soul Aside, the eagerly anticipated action RPG from UltiZero Games, is set to launch with a region lock affecting over 130 countries on Steam, causing widespread frustration among PC gamers. This decision has led many to reconsider purchasing the game. Dive deeper into the reasons behind the region lock and get insights from recent interviews with the game's director.
Lost Soul Aside Locked For 130+ Countries At Launch
Players Frustrated With Lost Soul Aside Being Region-Locked
The excitement surrounding UltiZero Games’ Lost Soul Aside has been dampened by the news of its region lock at launch. Sony's continued restrictions on PlayStation-published games have led to this decision, with SteamDB confirming that Lost Soul Aside will not be available in over 130 countries unsupported by PlayStation Network (PSN).
Interestingly, the game itself does not mandate a PSN account for play. However, due to the region lock, it will not appear on Steam in countries lacking PSN support. Gamers wishing to play must create a new Steam account in a country where PSN is available. This move is puzzling, especially following PlayStation's recent decision to drop PSN requirements for their PC titles. The community's backlash has been swift, with many expressing their discontent on social media and forums, ultimately choosing not to purchase the game due to these restrictions.
Lost Soul Aside Will Blend Fantasy Elements With Realistic Visuals
Since its initial reveal in 2016, Lost Soul Aside has maintained its unique blend of fantasy and realistic visuals. In a recent IGN interview on February 20, 2025, UltiZero Games CEO Yang Bing elaborated on the game's consistent style and vision.
Bing emphasized that the game's visual style and fast-paced, flashy combat have remained unchanged since the first promotional video. "This is something that we have been sticking to for all these years," he explained. "During the development process, we, of course, continued to see some new and excellent works, which maybe we got some influence through, on our thought along the way. So from the beginning, this personal trailer gradually evolved into a more mature and well-run version, I should say."
The game draws inspiration from Final Fantasy 15, notably in the protagonist Kaser's design, which combines cartoonish facial features and hairstyles with realistic textures for skin, hair, and clothing.
Influences From Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry
Lost Soul Aside has been influenced by a variety of acclaimed Japanese titles, including Final Fantasy, Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry. In a February 20, 2025, interview with Famitsu, Bing detailed how these games have shaped various aspects of Lost Soul Aside.
He highlighted the design of Kaser as a significant nod to Final Fantasy, stating, "I had a designer design the clothes for the main character, and I wanted to combine realistic and fantasy elements, just like in FF. After the clothes are designed, they are actually made and reproduced in the game. By doing so, we thought that the players would feel as if it actually existed, and that the main character, Kazel, would also feel as a bloody, realistic character."
Discussing combat and pacing, Bing drew parallels to Bayonetta, Ninja Gaiden, and Devil May Cry, emphasizing the game's fast-paced and flashy action. "We're also constantly improving and refining the combat system, maintaining a sense of speed in combat while also adding a certain amount of depth. Players can develop their own style, and even if they are not good at sequential moves, they can use various systems to achieve high performance and make the game go smoothly," he shared.
Lost Soul Aside is scheduled for release on May 30, 2025, for PlayStation 5 and PC. Stay tuned for more updates and detailed coverage on this exciting title.
