The 2024 Road House was a major streaming success, amassing over 50 million views in its first two weekends on Prime Video. This made it Amazon MGM Studios’ most-watched original film launch worldwide at the time, underscoring the franchise’s strong appeal in the streaming era. The film was directed by Doug Liman, known for hits like The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow. However, Liman has since distanced himself from the sequel, citing a major rift with Amazon over the film’s release strategy.

Liman publicly criticized Amazon’s decision to stream Road House instead of releasing it theatrically, despite the film being made with a theatrical mindset—complete with a production budget, marketing campaign, and talent compensation modeled on a wide release.
