Publisher/developer EA has announced it will not increase game prices, despite competitors like Microsoft and Nintendo raising theirs to $80.

In a recent financial call with investors, CEO Andrew Wilson emphasized the company’s commitment to “providing exceptional quality and unmatched value to our players,” citing the success of its co-op adventure Split Fiction, which has sold 4 million copies.

“Our pricing model today is vastly different from a decade ago,” Wilson noted. “While physical discs on retail shelves remain *part* of our business, it’s a much smaller segment. Our pricing now spans free-to-play models to premium deluxe editions and beyond.”

“Whether we’re offering a $1 experience or a $100 one, our goal is to deliver outstanding quality and value to players,” Wilson added. “By combining quality and value, we’ve built a robust, growing business.”

“From a planning perspective, we have no changes to our current \[pricing\] approach at this time,” confirmed CFO Stuart Canfield.

This aligns with a broader trend in AAA gaming, where prices have risen from $60 to $70 over the past five years. Nintendo has also set $80 for its upcoming Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart World and other Switch 2 Edition titles. The Switch 2, recently unveiled at $450, has sparked debate among fans, though analysts argue the price is unavoidable given economic pressures.

EA’s stance suggests that upcoming titles like EA Sports FC, Madden, and Battlefield will remain at the $70 standard edition price.

Last week, IGN reported that EA laid off approximately 100 employees at Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment, alongside broader cuts affecting roughly 300 staff members across the company.
