Bethesda Surprises Fans with Starfield Patch Amid Oblivion Remaster Excitement
Amid the buzz surrounding The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Bethesda has rolled out a surprise patch for Starfield, enhancing the game with 'Very Low' display settings to boost performance, expanded support for Creations (mods), and numerous fixes across quests, vehicles, user interface, and the Shattered Space DLC.
The update is currently available in Steam beta, allowing PC players to opt-in and test the new features. Bethesda has invited feedback from the community and shared detailed patch notes on their website.
While this update primarily focuses on new features and bug fixes, Starfield players are still eagerly awaiting announcements on potential new DLCs.
Launched in September 2023, Starfield marked Bethesda's first new IP in 25 years. Despite garnering 15 million players, it didn't achieve the same acclaim as the studio's renowned Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. The subsequent Shattered Space expansion, released in September 2024, unfortunately received 'mostly negative' user reviews on Steam.
Despite these challenges, Bethesda remains committed to Starfield's future, hinting at "exciting things" planned for 2025. In June 2024, the studio reaffirmed its dedication to the game and confirmed at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard expressed ambitions to release annual story expansions for "hopefully a very long time."
Speculation about a PlayStation 5 release for Starfield intensified in March after fans spotted a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website, attached to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation. Though the Creation was later removed, it fueled discussions about a possible expansion to the PS5 platform.
As attention shifts to Oblivion Remastered, Starfield fans are hopeful for major announcements at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. Could this be the moment for a PS5 version announcement or a new expansion reveal? The community waits with bated breath.
