Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has announced a significant update, version 1.1.1, which comes at a critical juncture for the game. Despite its recent release, Civilization 7 is currently struggling to attract players on Steam, with a 24-hour peak concurrent player count of only 16,921. This number falls short of not only Civilization 6, which boasts a peak of 40,676 players, but also the 15-year-old Civilization 5, with its 24-hour peak at 17,423. It's evident that many fans of the series are continuing to favor the older titles over the latest installment.

Civilization 7 Update 1.1.1 Patch Notes:

The Quick Move feature is now an optional setting that can be toggled in the game's menu, allowing for faster gameplay by enabling units to reach their destinations immediately.

A significant change in map generation includes a new start position option. The default setting for single-player games is now 'Standard,' which offers more varied and unpredictable continents, similar to Civilization 6. For multiplayer, the 'Balanced' setting remains to ensure fair play with consistent maps.

Players can now rename settlements and commanders, adding a personal touch to their game. Additionally, a new restart feature allows players to generate a new map with different seeds while keeping their chosen leader and civilization, much like in Civilization 6.

UI improvements include a persistent city and town panel during purchases, new notifications for cities under attack, indicators for crises, and enhanced resource tooltips. The update also brings significant pacing changes to improve the overall gameplay experience.

Alongside these updates, a new civilization, Bulgaria, along with Nepal and the new leader Simón Bolívar, will be introduced as part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection, available today, March 25.
