Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player concerns following a mixed Steam reception during early access. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates focusing on community feedback.

Key complaints centered around the user interface (UI), limited map variety, and missing features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged negative reviews, he expressed confidence in the game's long-term appeal to established Civilization fans, describing its early performance as "very encouraging."

This patch introduces significant gameplay improvements, including:

• Gameplay Adjustments: Fixes for shorter-than-intended ages in Epic and Marathon speed games; City-States now transition to Friendly Independent Powers instead of disappearing; improved naval combat mechanics (combat strength, reciprocal damage, movement after attacks); preventing unintended Age Progress from Legacy Path completion; automatic town focus switching; repeatability of Future Civic with increased costs; resolving negative food values from excessive growth bonuses; improved rail network reliability for settlements connected via ports; and Loyalty Crisis adjustments in the Antiquity Age (including purchasing Villas).

• AI Enhancements: Reduced frequency of high-value city offers in peace deals; decreased war declarations at the start of the Modern Age; increased consideration of Ideology before war/peace decisions; adjusted war/peace desires based on opposing ideologies.

• Camera Fix: Resolved an issue causing the camera to focus incorrectly on the minimap in native resolutions.

• UI Improvements: Replaced the Simplified Chinese font (temporary); fixed issues with Settlement menus, yield icons, cut-off text on the Global Yields Breakdown screen; added notifications for completed espionage actions; prevented the purchasable appearance of completed city projects; prioritized the display of the current religion; removed lingering health bars; fixed missing leader portraits after relationship changes; improved alignment of leader names and portraits; corrected default background color issues; and improved spacing on the loading screen.

Cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players is temporarily disabled to expedite PC updates. This will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer. Further patches are expected.
