Remedy's Control spin-off shooter FBC: Firebreak has reached over one million players. While the game is free for Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, the studio described this as a "major achievement," while acknowledging "there's still considerable work remaining."

"We've surpassed 1 million players in FBC: Firebreak as of last night. This means the world to our team at Remedy, so thank you to everyone playing," the developer announced in a social media post.

"We're fully aware more improvements are needed, and our team is energized to keep refining the experience. Exciting updates for Firebreak players are in development—stay tuned for details."

Recently, the team acknowledged issues with the initial gameplay experience, noting FBC: Firebreak's opening hours suffered from unclear tutorials, underdeveloped systems, and vague mission guidance requiring optimization. The developers also admitted: "Early weapon progression feels underwhelming, with overpowered equipment locked behind excessive grind."

"While the narrative occasionally feels thin, the chaotic monster-hunting action within Remedy's surreal bureaucratic universe delivers undeniable fun," we noted in IGN's ongoing FBC: Firebreak review. "Further testing of this cooperative workplace simulator's limits will inform our final assessment."

Remedy has committed to long-term post-launch support, including two free mission updates scheduled for 2025 followed by additional 2026 content. All gameplay expansions will remain free, with monetization limited to optional cosmetic purchases devoid of gameplay advantages or time-sensitive promotions.

The studio currently juggles multiple projects alongside FBC: Firebreak, including development of Control 2 and the Max Payne 1&2 remakes.
