Gears of War: Reloaded Release Date Unveiled

Cross-Platform Launch

Gears of War, a cornerstone of Xbox’s legacy, has long been exclusive to Microsoft’s ecosystem. On May 6, Xbox revealed via X that Gears of War: Reloaded will arrive on all major platforms, including PS5, on August 26.

Xbox is doubling down on its strategy to bring exclusive titles to broader audiences. In a January interview with GamerTag Radio, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer emphasized this approach, saying, “We’re passionate about our platform and hardware, but we won’t restrict access to the incredible games our studios create.”

This shift suggests that the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day might also launch across platforms simultaneously with PS5. Xbox has yet to confirm details, leaving fans eager for updates on other exclusives.

Enhanced Remaster with Native Optimization

The announcement of Reloaded caught fans off guard, given the 2015 remaster, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. In a May 5 Xbox Wire post, The Coalition’s Studio Head Mike Crump outlined what players can anticipate.

He noted, “As we near the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re celebrating the stories, connections, and epic moments this franchise has delivered. With Reloaded, we’re inviting more players to experience it than ever before.”

Reloaded significantly boosts performance over its 2015 predecessor. While Ultimate Edition ran at 1080p with 30fps in campaign and 60fps in multiplayer, Reloaded delivers 4K at 60fps for the campaign and 120fps in multiplayer. It also features upgraded 4K assets, revamped textures, enhanced visual effects, improved shadows, reflections, and more.

The Xbox Wire post added, “Players will enjoy all post-launch downloadable content at no extra cost, including an additional campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full lineup of classic characters and cosmetics earned through progression.”

Owners of The Ultimate Edition before the announcement qualify for a free upgrade to Reloaded. Eligible Xbox accounts will receive a code via direct message before the launch.

Gears of War: Reloaded launches on August 26, priced at $39.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
