Lies of P Director Considers Elden Ring: Nightreign for Multiplayer Game

Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won is exploring new horizons after being inspired by Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test. Read on to discover more about the duration of the Overture DLC and what fans can anticipate from this upcoming expansion.
Lies of P Overture DLC Updates
Open To Any Sort of Considerations

After diving into Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won felt invigorated and is now considering fresh concepts for future projects. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Eurogamer caught up with Choi to discuss the evolution of the Souls genre. Known for his admiration of FromSoftware games, Choi's influence is clearly seen in Lies of P.
Reflecting on Elden Ring: Nightreign, Choi remarked, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, always pushing their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as well as we possibly could."
This experience has opened Choi's mind to the possibility of developing multiplayer games. He expressed, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

Despite his fondness for FromSoftware titles, Choi is keen to emphasize that his inspirations are diverse. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he elaborated, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. It's a combination of diverse inspirations from many games that I love, which I then transform into a Lies of P experience for our fans."
Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete, brimming with additional bosses and content originally intended for the game's launch. He explained, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, which was challenging."
Overture serves as a prequel, transporting players back to Krat during its final days of haunting, following a legendary Stalker. This expansion encapsulates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that were left out of the initial launch due to production constraints. Choi likened this release to a Director’s Cut, akin to the final third of the game.
He noted, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize delivering the best quality, so we couldn't include everything at once. The support from our community after the base game's release pushed us to include everything we wanted in the expansion."
Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the upcoming Overture DLC does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. For those avoiding spoilers, the end of the base game hints at potential directions for the Lies of P universe.
Choi previously confirmed in a Director’s Letter video in November 2023 that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works, suggesting that the final cutscene might be related to future developments. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce.
Choi reassured fans, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. Our focus on quality amid all the pressure we've discussed in the past is unwavering. So, when we share those contents with you, we will be ready."

He encouraged players to revisit the base game, as it contains numerous hints about what the DLC might entail. Choi also revealed his engagement with fan theories online, noting that some were surprisingly accurate.
Lies of P: Overture is slated for release in Summer 2025, with no specific date announced yet. The expansion will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with the latest information on the game by checking out our article below!
