Monster Hunter Wilds: Unique Weapon Designs Revealed - IGN First

Fans of the Monster Hunter series have often expressed mixed feelings about the weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World, leading to curiosity about whether Monster Hunter Wilds would continue this trend. While initial glimpses of Wilds' weapons have been intriguing, they haven't been extensive enough to fully assess the game's design philosophy. However, Monster Hunter Wilds Director Yuya Tokuda has provided clarity on this matter.
When discussing the Hope series armor and weapons, Tokuda stated, “Incidentally, weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World generally retained a certain form, but they featured a customized appearance based on which monster materials were used. However, in Wilds, each weapon has its own unique design.” This statement directly addresses the concerns about weapon designs being too similar, as seen in Monster Hunter: World. For instance, even at their most upgraded forms, weapons like the final aqua line Sword and Shield and the Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, or the bone line Long Sword and the Jyuratodus Long Sword, bore striking resemblances to each other, as shown in the image below.

In contrast, the weapons revealed for Monster Hunter Wilds showcase a commitment to uniqueness, as demonstrated in the following slideshow.
