Netflix is reportedly developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series set in The Forgotten Realms universe, according to Deadline. Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is attached to the project alongside writer-showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) and Hasbro.

The Forgotten Realms serves as the primary fantasy setting for Dungeons & Dragons, previously featured in both the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film and Larian Studios' critically acclaimed Baldur's Gate 3 video game.

Deadline describes this potential adaptation as "one of Netflix's most ambitious fantasy television projects to date." While Crevello has reportedly written the pilot episode and will serve as showrunner, neither Netflix nor Hasbro have officially confirmed the development.

"After extensive negotiations typical for intellectual property of this caliber, sources indicate the fantasy series is now moving forward with Netflix for further development," reported Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. "If successful, this could lay the foundation for an expanded Dungeons & Dragons universe."

While the live-action Dungeons & Dragons series shows promising development, news remains scarce regarding a sequel to the beloved Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, which underperformed commercially for Paramount Pictures.

In November 2023, lead actor Chris Pine expressed enthusiasm about reprising his role, stating he felt "reasonably confident" about a sequel. However, no official announcements have followed.

Paramount CEO Brian Robbins indicated openness to continuing the cinematic D&D universe, contingent on budgetary constraints. "We need to find ways to produce future installments more cost-effectively," he remarked.

In related developments, Amazon Prime Video recently streamed a Dungeons & Dragons animated segment as part of its Secret Level anthology series.
