Speculation about *Starfield* being confirmed for release on PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend when fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for *Starfield*, which was subsequently removed. This has led fans to believe that Bethesda's sci-fi game, currently exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon be available on PS5.

The game has been relatively quiet since the launch of the poorly received *Shattered Space* expansion. Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, is expected to host a summer showcase this year, which could be the perfect opportunity to reveal more about *Starfield*.

Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for *Starfield* this year, amidst growing discontent from players over a lack of communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to supporting *Starfield* and confirmed at least one more story expansion following *Shattered Space*. In an interview with the YouTube channel *MrMattyPlays*, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard mentioned that the studio aims to release an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

*Starfield* was launched in September 2023 as Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and its first mainline single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of parent company ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review of *Starfield* gave it a 7/10, stating: "*Starfield* has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft's gaming boss Phil Spencer did not rule out the possibility of *Starfield* coming to PS5. Reports from as early as March 2024 suggested that both *Starfield* and MachineGames' *Indiana Jones and the Great Circle* were being considered for PS5. *Indiana Jones* was later confirmed for PS5 with a spring 2025 release window, following its launch on PC and Xbox Series X and S. However, *Starfield* has yet to be officially confirmed for PS5, though Spencer's comments have kept the possibility alive.

Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including *Sea of Thieves* by Rare, *Hi-Fi Rush* by Tango Gameworks, and *Grounded* and *Pentiment* by Obsidian. Microsoft also publishes *Minecraft* on PlayStation consoles and other platforms and is set to release *Doom: The Dark Ages* and *Ninja Gaiden 4* on PS5 later this year. *Forza Horizon 5* by Playground is also confirmed to be coming to PS5 soon. There are even reports that Microsoft might finally bring *Halo* to PlayStation after decades of Xbox exclusivity.

Phil Spencer has stated that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to increase revenue for Microsoft's gaming business, especially following the $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Spencer emphasized the high expectations within Microsoft for the gaming division to deliver results, saying, "We run a business. It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do. So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us."
