The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 will premiere on May 4, 2025, with an exclusive reveal at IGN Fan Fest 2025.

During Day 2 of IGN Fan Fest 2025, an exclusive clip and interview featured Scott Gimple, chief content officer of The Walking Dead universe, alongside Maggie actress Lauren Cohan and Negan actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Cohan shared insights into Maggie’s mindset entering Season 2. “Things aren’t as bright as one might hope,” she said. “The challenges of this world weigh heavily, and Maggie’s navigating tough times.”

“My son’s a teenager, so there’s natural family tension. I’m also caring for Ginny, a teenage girl, which brings relatable domestic struggles into play. On top of that, we’re surviving in an apocalyptic world, focused on food, safety, and rest—until another major threat emerges.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussed Negan’s arc, noting the character’s shift from villain to fan favorite.

“Negan’s under the control of The Dama and The Croat, on unfamiliar ground,” he explained. “He’s struggling and plotting to turn things around, but it’s a tough spot for him.”

Morgan also reflected on Negan’s iconic barbed-wire bat, Lucille, named after his late wife. “I love that prop,” he said. “It’s the only one I’ve ever enjoyed carrying. It brings back great memories for me, though maybe not for Lauren!”

Gimple elaborated on the Season 2 conflict. “There’s no single villain this time,” he said. “The power dynamics shift constantly, with political and physical stakes. It’s more nuanced than pure antagonism.”
