The event, held from January 12–18, 2025, brought together top speedrunners, fans, and streamers from around the world to raise funds through live gameplay, donor challenges, and community engagement. The funds will be distributed to multiple beneficiary organizations, including: Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) – Supporting emergency medical care in conflict zones and underserved regions. The Trevor Project – Providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ+ youth. Crisis Text Line – Expanding access to mental health support via text. ALS Association – Advancing research and care for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. AGDQ 2025 featured over 100 world-class speedruns across more than 60 games, including new entries like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Metroid Prime Remastered. Notable highlights included a historic sub-15-minute run of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a charity livestreamed co-run of Elden Ring that raised over $300,000, and a special "Donate to Win" challenge that saw fans race to unlock a surprise gameplay reveal. Organizers credited the success to the passionate community, live donation integrations, and a growing global audience that now surpasses 12 million viewers across platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and the official AGDQ website. “This year’s record-breaking $2.5 million is a testament to the power of gaming as a force for good,” said AGDQ Executive Director, Sarah Kline. “Every second streamed, every dollar donated, and every viewer who tuned in helped change lives. We’re beyond grateful to our community for making this possible.” The event concluded with a heartfelt thank-you message from the community, and organizers have already teased the 2026 AGDQ and Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) campaigns, promising even more innovation and impact. Summary: Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 Raises Over $2.5 Million for Prevent Cancer Foundation
From January 5th to 13th, Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 (AGDQ 2025) achieved a remarkable fundraising milestone, raising over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation—surpassing the 2024 total by more than $100,000. This marks the latest in a long-standing and impactful partnership, with GDQ events collectively raising over $26 million for the foundation across multiple campaigns.
Hosted in Pittsburgh, AGDQ 2025 kicked off with a record-breaking speedrun of the Switch version of Pikmin, completed by speedrunner Ray0ken in under an hour. The event featured a diverse lineup of high-energy runs across genres, including iconic titles like Super Metroid, Crazy Taxi, and others, showcasing both technical mastery and entertainment value.
One of the standout moments came during a 18-minute speedrun of Crazy Taxi, performed by Chuckles825. Known for its vibrant, licensed soundtrack, the game typically faces streaming restrictions due to copyright. However, AGDQ 2025 transformed the experience with a live band performing real-time covers of the game’s tracks, perfectly synced with gameplay. The electrifying fusion of music and speedrunning captivated viewers and donors alike, generating over $24,000 in donations during the run alone.
The marathon concluded with a thrilling four-player randomized race in Super Metroid (SNES), where runners Eddie and Andy finished just one second apart, delivering a dramatic and unforgettable finale.
Looking ahead, Summer Games Done Quick 2025 will take place on July 6th in Minneapolis, supporting Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières)—continuing GDQ’s tradition of combining gaming excellence with global humanitarian impact.
Through innovation, community spirit, and record-breaking fundraising, AGDQ 2025 once again proved that video games can be a powerful force for good—advancing cancer prevention, funding life-saving research, and uniting millions in support of vital causes.
