In October 2024, GDQ quickly assembled a Disaster Relief Done Quick fundraiser in response to the widespread damage caused by Hurricane Helene across the Southeastern United States. That event raised over $45,000 in just over two days for Direct Relief, a charity dedicated to delivering emergency supplies, transportation, and medical aid to regions impacted by disasters and public health crises.

As the new year commenced, Awesome Games Done Quick achieved an impressive fundraising milestone for cancer research. Between January 5th and 13th, AGDQ 2025 collected over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The final figure represents an increase of more than $100,000 compared to AGDQ 2024. The Prevent Cancer Foundation states that its mission prioritizes early detection and prevention of cancer, while also financing research and public outreach. This collaboration is well-established, as GDQ events have collectively raised over $26 million for the foundation across multiple campaigns. AGDQ 2025 was hosted in Pittsburgh and began with a speedrun of the Switch version of Pikmin by Ray0ken, who completed the game in under an hour.

A particularly memorable moment from AGDQ 2025 was a speedrun of Crazy Taxi, a beloved Dreamcast classic. While the game's design allows for short completion times, its use of licensed music typically makes it difficult to stream without muting the audio or facing potential takedowns on platforms like Twitch. At AGDQ, speedrunner Chuckles825 was supported by a live band that performed covers of the game's soundtrack in sync with the gameplay. This 18-minute run alone attracted over $24,000 in donations.

The grand finale of AGDQ 2025 was a randomized, four-player race in the SNES classic Super Metroid. The race concluded dramatically, with two runners, Eddie and Andy, finishing just one second apart. GDQ will return on July 6th for Summer Games Done Quick 2025, to be held in Minneapolis in support of Doctors Without Borders.
