From January 5th to 13th, 2025, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) achieved a monumental fundraising success, raising over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation—surpassing the 2024 total by more than $100,000. This marks another milestone in GDQ’s long-standing partnership with the foundation, which has collectively raised over $26 million for cancer prevention, early detection, research, and public education.
The event, hosted in Pittsburgh, kicked off with a record-breaking speedrun of the Switch version of Pikmin by streamer Ray0ken, who completed the game in under an hour. The marathon featured a diverse lineup of high-energy speedruns across genres and eras, including standout performances in Super Metroid, Crazy Taxi, and many others.
One of the most iconic moments came during an 18-minute speedrun of Crazy Taxi by runner Chuckles825. To overcome the game’s licensing hurdles with its licensed soundtrack, GDQ orchestrated a unique live experience: a real-time musical performance by a live band that played covers of the game’s iconic tracks in perfect sync with gameplay. The electrifying fusion of speedrunning and live music captivated the audience and generated over $24,000 in donations during the run alone.
The event concluded in dramatic fashion with a randomized, four-player race in Super Metroid (SNES). The final showdown between runners Eddie and Andy ended with both crossing the finish line just one second apart, leaving fans breathless.
As GDQ continues to innovate and inspire, the organization will return in July 2025 for Summer Games Done Quick, hosted in Minneapolis and benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
