Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has exciting news for fans of the Assassin's Creed series: several remakes are in development. In a recent interview featured on the Ubisoft website, Guillemot shared insights into the future of this beloved franchise.

A Variety of AC Games to Be Released Regularly, Almost Yearly

During the interview, Guillemot confirmed the development of several Assassin's Creed remakes, though he did not specify which games are being targeted. He stated, "Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich." This suggests that fans can look forward to seeing classic entries in the series revitalized and brought up to date.

Guillemot also hinted at a diverse range of experiences coming to the franchise. "There will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year," he elaborated. This approach aims to keep the series fresh and engaging for players.

Upcoming titles such as Assassin’s Creed Hexe, set in 16th-century Europe and slated for a 2026 release, and the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade, expected in 2025, promise to offer unique experiences within the franchise. Additionally, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, is scheduled for release on November 15, 2024.

Ubisoft has a track record of remastering its classic titles, with notable releases like Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection in 2016 and Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered in 2018. Last year, rumors circulated about a potential remake of the beloved Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, though Ubisoft has yet to officially confirm this.

Ubisoft Embraces Generative AI

Guillemot also discussed the role of evolving technology in game development. He highlighted the advancements in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, particularly its dynamic weather system that impacts gameplay and significant visual improvements. He expressed enthusiasm for the potential of generative AI to enhance game worlds.

"Technology is evolving at such a pace that there are limitless possibilities for evolution," Guillemot remarked. "In Assassin's Creed Shadows, for example, we have a weather system that will affect its gameplay; ponds that were once swimmable might freeze, for instance."

"Visually, we're also seeing a big step forward for the series. I have also been very vocal about the potential I see in generative AI and how it can enrich NPCs to be more intelligent, more interactive," he added. "This could potentially extend to animals in the world, to the world itself. There is still so much we can do to enrich these open worlds to be even more dynamic."
