Director and writer Matt Reeves, alongside co-writer Mattson Tomlin, have completed the script for The Batman Part 2.

A much-awaited update for the Robert Pattinson-starring The Batman 2 arrived via a new image shared by Reeves on X/Twitter. At first, the post appears as a simple black-and-white photo of the director seated next to Tomlin. However, the DC duo is only part of the reveal, with the real highlight being a script adorned with a familiar bat-shaped logo placed on the table before them.

While Reeves and Tomlin haven’t explicitly confirmed the script’s completion, Variety verified that the screenplay is indeed finalized. This update aligns with recent comments from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, who told EW last week that he anticipated receiving the script for the Pattinson-led sequel before the end of the month.

“We’re feeling confident about it,” Gunn stated. “Matt’s enthusiastic, and we’re in regular contact. I’m thrilled about the project, and we’re eager to review the script soon.”

The Batman, which premiered in March 2022, offered audiences a darker vision of Gotham City, earning widespread acclaim from comic book fans and critics alike (we rated it a 10/10). The film also thrived commercially, with Box Office Mojo reporting a global gross of $772,245,583.

With such buzz surrounding the original, fans have been eagerly awaiting the sequel’s progress. The Max spinoff series The Penguin, focusing on Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobb, has helped tide fans over, but DC has faced challenges in crafting a worthy follow-up to the 2022 hit.

Gunn, however, has supported giving Reeves and his team ample time to perfect the project.

“Fans should ease up on Matt,” Gunn told EW. “Let him craft the screenplay at his own pace. His talent is why you loved the first film, so trust him to deliver.”

After facing significant delays, The Batman Part 2 is now slated for release on October 1, 2027. Meanwhile, the upcoming DCU film The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new iteration of Bruce Wayne, distinct from Pattinson’s portrayal. With two major Batman projects in development and many details still unfolding, Gunn has noted that the character remains his “biggest challenge at DC right now.”
