Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge
Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition for Students
Capcom is fostering collaboration between industry and academia by hosting its inaugural Capcom Games Competition, a game development tournament designed to bolster the video game industry. This initiative aims to cultivate future talent and advance research within educational institutions.

A Collaborative Approach to Game Development

The competition invites Japanese university, graduate, and vocational school students (18 years or older) to form teams of up to 20 members. Each team member will assume a specific role within game development, mirroring real-world studio structures. Teams will receive mentorship from experienced Capcom developers, gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge game development techniques. The competition spans six months, culminating in a showcase of the teams' creations. Capcom plans to provide production support and even commercialization opportunities for winning entries.

Utilizing Capcom's RE ENGINE
The competition leverages Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine), first introduced in 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. This powerful engine has since powered numerous successful Capcom titles, including recent Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Its ongoing development ensures that participants work with a state-of-the-art toolset.
Competition Timeline
The application period opens December 9, 2024, and closes January 17, 2025 (unless otherwise stated). This exciting opportunity promises to shape the future of game development in Japan.
