This simple, non-field RPG challenges you to escape a cursed forest.
-Prologue-
You're the village's best hunter. News of a national hunting tournament near the royal capital reaches you, and you journey there. After attending the opening ceremony, you venture into the forest. Waking after your first night camping, you discover something unsettling: everyone's gone. Only the remnants of a large hunter encampment remain. National guards oversee the tournament, yet there's not a soul in sight.
Cautiously, you begin to walk. Soon, a disturbing realization dawns: you encounter a strangely familiar tree, one you're sure you've already passed. You were heading north, aiming to return to the forest entrance, but you're back where you started. As a skilled hunter, this is unacceptable. Your sense of direction is usually impeccable. This is undeniably strange. You're trapped.
Fighting panic, you continue exploring the forest.
-What is the "Elven Curse"?-
With the aid of a quarter-elf, you, the hunter, must escape the cursed forest. Gameplay is incredibly straightforward, using a maximum of three buttons at a time (excluding the main menu).
-Character Creation-
While character customization is limited, you can freely re-roll your stats as often as needed. Stat increase rates upon leveling up are only viewable on this screen and cannot be checked in-game. This information acts as a return item during gameplay.
Game Over occurs when your life force reaches zero and you have fewer than two "talismans."
-Peddler Quarter-Elf "Foria"-
A boy (?), encountered within the forest, who identifies as a quarter-elf and claims to be older than you. Despite claiming neutrality, Foria secretly assists your escape using the forest's ancient spirits.
-Scenario/Scene-
The prologue unfolds like a visual novel, with Foria's dialogue adding a cheerful counterpoint to the unsettling atmosphere. The game's world is subtly conveyed through concise, evocative language.
-Exploration Mode-
Progress through the forest by exploring unexplored areas. The success of each exploration attempt depends on the area's "fog depth," influenced by your character stats. When your life force depletes, use poison or rare "talismans" to recover, or consider returning to Foria.
-Beast Encounters/Hunter Battles-
Fierce creatures roam the forest, from wolves and wild dogs to surprisingly aggressive frogs and rabbits. Defeating them yields hides for trading with Foria. Unlike typical RPGs, combat doesn't grant experience points. The goal is escape; there are no set boss battles, and all encounters are avoidable (though this requires luck or strategic play).
As a hunter, you use a bow and arrow. Maintain a safe distance to attack without retaliation, though this might allow the beast to close the gap. From afar, you can also use wound medicine. If the beast closes the distance, you can either withdraw (success rate depends on your stats) or use a "flash" ball provided by Foria for guaranteed escape.
-Cloak/Layering System-
Craft cloaks using gathered branches, resin, and leather to enhance your abilities. Up to three layers can be worn, cumulatively increasing your stats. Cloaks can also rarely restore vitality. Note that the outermost layer can be damaged and eventually destroyed. The bow and arrow remain your only weapon; there are no other equipment variations.
-Game Features-
This is a game about playing the game. It features:
- Random skill selection.
- Challenges of reflexes, strategy, skill, and luck.
- Item collection, synthesis, and alchemy.
- Preparation is key: level up and acquire items strategically.
- Relaxing gameplay allowing for progress even with casual play.
-Auto-Save-
The game auto-saves, but not during battles. For reliable saving, exit the app from the base menu.
