inZOI game director, Hyungjun Kim, recently unveiled plans for a unique Karma system, introducing the intriguing concept of ghost Zois. This paranormal mechanic adds a new dimension to the game's realistic setting.

A Zoi's Fate After Death

Kim revealed (February 7, 2025, Discord post) that a Zoi's afterlife is determined by their Karma points. Sufficient points grant passage to the afterlife, while those with insufficient karma remain as ghosts until they accumulate enough points. The methods for restoring karma remain undisclosed for now.

Limited, Yet Engaging Ghost Interactions

The director emphasized a balanced approach, aiming to integrate ghost interactions without overshadowing core gameplay. Currently, Early Access players will only encounter ghost Zois through limited conversations under specific circumstances and at designated times.

A Glimpse into Karma Interactions

Krafton Inc.'s August 2024 collaboration with content creators, including MadMorph, offered a sneak peek at the Karma system. MadMorph's video showcased "Karma Interactions," a feature allowing players to perform actions impacting their Karma score. Examples include both positive actions (like liking a friend's post) and negative ones (such as a rather unpleasant prank).

Future Implications and Early Access

While the Early Access version (Steam launch March 28, 2025) focuses on the living Zois, Kim hinted at a significantly expanded role for Karma Interactions in future updates. This intriguing system promises to add a layer of depth and unexpected gameplay to inZOI.
